Welcome to Asiannext.com where we cover the daily performances of the world's top Asian athletes and entertainment superstars.

As an youngster growing up, I was a fan of many athletes but there were few that I could really relate to as an Asian-American. Back then you could count the number of prominent Asian athletes on one hand and then half of them were female figure skaters. There was tennis player Michael Chang and that was about it.

Since then Asian athletes have started to trickle unto the sports scene in the US, starting with Japanese baseball players Hideo Nomo, Ichiro Suzuki and Hideki Matsui. Retired linebacker Dat Nguyen was the first Vietnamese-American to play in the NFL and had a great career with the Dallas Cowboys. But it was the arrival of Yao Ming in 2002 that really gave Asian athletes the credibility of the mainstream media. Never had the world seen an athlete of such pure size, skill and humility as displayed by Yao. Since then athletes like Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao, Japanese pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka and even Korean teenage golfer Michelle Wie have won the hearts and captured the imaginations of people all over the world.

Today you will see Asian athletes performing at the highest level in major sports around the world. However like back then, we are still very much the minority & under-dog in many ways. I have created this blog to discuss and celebrate the ups & downs of the Asian athlete experience. For better or for worse we are here to stay and its about time.
